Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made stellar returns to domestic cricket for Mumbai and Delhi respectively on Wednesday. The duo featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and went on to score stunning centuries in the first round of the tournament. While Rohit played a fabulous knock of 155 against Sikkim, Kohli also didn't lag far behind and scored 131 runs against Andhra Pradesh. The two played a crucial role in taking their respective teams to victory.
Both Rohit and Kohli also achieved impressive feats with their knocks in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as while the former became the player with the joint-most 150+ scores in List A cricket alongside David Warner with nine scores each, the latter broke Sachin Tendulkar's record and became the fastest player to amass 16,000 List A runs.
Harbhajan showers praise on Rohit and Virat
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh was left thoroughly impressed with the duo's performance in the domestic competition and remarked that not only will the hundreds help them in gaining confidence, but it will also be a great learning experience for the youngsters present in the respective teams to play alongside them in the same team.
“It’s good to see, really good to see, that big players are also turning up for tournaments like these. When you go and play alongside domestic players, obviously it boosts their confidence as well. Kohli going into Delhi’s dressing room is obviously a big, big learning experience for all those kids sitting there. It’s a huge lesson for them to see what Kohli does," Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
"Similarly, Rohit Sharma has gone into Mumbai’s dressing room. Although Mumbai has always been a very big team and has won a lot, I still feel that Kohli playing and Rohit playing is, in itself, a very big thing," he added.
Mumbai and Delhi begin on a positive note
Meanwhile, both Mumbai and Delhi started their respective campaigns on a high in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Rohit's century helped Mumbai defeat Sikkim comprehensively by 8 wickets while on the other hand, Kohli's knock saw Delhi defeat Andhra Pradesh comfortably by 4 wickets. It remains to be seen if the two stalwarts will be able to maintain their form in the second round of the tournament that will be held on December 26.
