Star English batter Joe Root smashed a magnificent century in the second innings of the second Test against West Indies which was being played at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. He is currently the highest run scorer in Test cricket among the active cricketers and now has his eyes set on a historic record that will add another feather to his hat of accolades. He is just short of 60 runs from completing 12000 runs in red-ball cricket. However, this is not even the only record that he would be achieving after reaching this milestone.

Joe Root will become the seventh batter in the world to complete 12000 runs in Test cricket if he manages to hit 60 runs in the third Test against West Indies. He would also become the fastest English batter to reach this milestone after surpassing Alastair Cook, who completed it in 275 innings. Meanwhile, Root has the chance to do the same in just 261 innings. Currently, no active or Fab-4 player even has 10000 runs, which shows how remarkable this feat is.
Michael Vaughan believes Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar's record
Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Root will become the leading run-scorer for England in Test cricket in a few months and he also believes that he can potentially break Sachin's record and become the highest Test run-getter in history. However, the milestone is currently a little far from the English star as he still needs 3,982 more runs to break Tendulkar’s record.
"Joe Root will become England’s leading run-scorer in the next few months and is so special that he really could overtake Sachin Tendulkar eventually. With the bat generally they did not look reckless like they have in the past. They are scoring quickly, but it doesn’t look like their egos are taking over. They are just playing with good sense. As the rock, Root is obviously key to that, and I love that he kept the reverse-scoop in the locker until he was past 100 and England’s lead was massive," Vaughan wrote in his column for The Daily Telegraph.
