The second Test match between India and the West Indies witnessed some powerful batting performances, especially from Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Skipper Gill played with great confidence and skill, smashing his 10th Test century, finishing with 129 runs while the team declared their innings at 518 for 5. Dhruv Jurel also contributed well with a solid 44 runs, helping India put up a strong total.
Gill surpassed Rohit Sharma
After smashing a century against the West Indies, India Test captain Gill the player with most centuries in WTC history for India. His century against the West Indies in Delhi turned out to be the 10th ton, surpassing Rohit Sharma, who retired earlier this year, finishing with nine centuries in the WTC.
Players | Centuries |
Shubman Gill | 10 |
Rohit Sharma | 9 |
Yashasvi Jaiswal | 7 |
The declaration came after Dhruv Jurel was bowled by West Indies captain Roston Chase for 44. Along with Gill’s century, Yashasvi Jaiswal's 175, B Sai Sudharsan’s 87, and Nitish Kumar Reddy’s quick 43 helped India post a massive total. India had started the day at 318/2 and added 200 more runs before deciding to end their innings.
Jaiswal's heartbreaking run-out
Jaiswal’s innings ended in an unfortunate run-out early on day two. He pushed a ball to mid-off and went for a quick single, but Gill didn’t respond. Jaiswal had already covered more than half the pitch when Tagenarine Chanderpaul's direct throw caught him short at the striker's end.
Reddy's promotion in batting
Reddy, promoted to number five, had some early luck. He survived an lbw call and a dropped catch, but made up for it by hitting two sixes and a four off spinner Jomel Warrican. Gill, meanwhile, continued batting calmly, reaching his fifty with a stylish flick through mid-wicket.
After Reddy was dismissed for 43, Gill and Jurel kept the scoreboard moving. Gill reached his century with a well-timed cut shot for three runs. He later hit Chase for a six and continued playing confidently. Jurel impressed with his strokeplay but was bowled for 44 while trying to pull a fuller delivery.

India 1st innings: 518 for 5 in 134.2 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 175, Shubman Gill 129 not out, Sai Sudharsan 87; Jomel Warrican 3/98).
