Sri Lanka has officially announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to be hosted across England and Wales. The team will once again be spearheaded by the highly seasoned Chamari Athapaththu. The veteran all-rounder brings an unparalleled wealth of experience to the side, having remarkably featured in all nine previous editions of the prestigious global tournament.

In a notable selection move, Sri Lanka has left out 40-year-old veteran left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera from their 15-player squad for the showpiece tournament, which is scheduled to kick off on June 12. Ranaweera, who brings the experience of 91 T20Is, is one of three players omitted from the roster alongside Rashmika Sewwandi and Dewmi Vihanga, both of whom were part of the national squad during the recent tour of Bangladesh in April and May.

The veteran spinner did not get game time during the T20Is in Bangladesh, but she had put on a solid display during her previous assignment against the West Indies at St George's in March. In that series, Ranaweera bowled tidy spells across her three outings, notably picking up two wickets apiece in two of those matches.

On the inclusion front, the selectors have recalled 20-year-old batter Vishmi Gunaratne to the national setup. Regarded as one of the country's most promising young talents, Gunaratne already has 54 T20Is under her belt but has heavily struggled for form in the shortest format, a slump that dates back to the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Joining her in the squad are two other fresh faces: 17-year-old ambidextrous wrist spinner Shashini Gimhani and 23-year-old seamer Kawya Kavindi.
