UP Warriorz's sensation Deepti Sharma etched her name in history by securing the first-ever hat-trick by an Indian in the Women's Premier League (WPL), during a match against Delhi Capitals. Her exceptional performance was instrumental in UP Warriorz's nail-biting one-run, taking three wickets in consecutive deliveries across two overs, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, March 8.

Deepti's all-round heroics sink Delhi Capitals

Deepti's influence was not just limited to her groundbreaking bowling feat; she also played a vital role with the bat, scoring 59 runs from 48 deliveries, which helped set a challenging total of 138 for UP Warriorz. Her all-around brilliance was instrumental in bowling out Delhi Capitals for 137, thereby enhancing UP Warriorz's prospects for advancing to the knockout stages and improving their tally to six points after seven matches. Deepti Sharma was pivotal for the Warriorz in the 19th over, achieving a hat-trick and ending with impressive figures of 4/19 in her four-over spell.

In the crucial final over of the Capitals' chase, Grace Harris clinched two wickets, securing a nail-biting win for the visitors. Contributions also came from Saima Thakor (2/30) and Sophie Ecclestone (1/15), bolstering UP Warriorz's bowling attack. Delhi Capitals' captain, Meg Lanning, delivered a standout performance with 60 runs off 46 balls, but her effort was overshadowed as her teammates faltered under pressure, failing to step up when needed. Despite their dramatic victory against Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz remained in fourth place with six points, while Meg Lanning's team continued to lead the league with eight points.

 

Deepti Sharma bags big milestones with stunning hat-trick

Deepti stormed into the WPL history books by being the first to hit a fifty and secure a hat-trick in a single match. Following Mumbai Indians' Issy Wong, Deepti is the second bowler overall to achieve a hat-trick in the WPL.
