WPL 2024's most expensive player ruled out, Gujarat Giants name Mumbai all-rounder as replacement; RCB make one change too

Gujarat Giants dealt a heavy blow as they lost the services of pacer Kashvee Gautam.

In a big blow to Gujarat Giants days ahead of the second edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL), their most expensive player of the auction, uncapped Kashvee Gautam has been ruled out due to an injury. Gautam was picked for a whopping Rs 2 crore in the auction. 
 

Gautam’s replacement for WPL 2024

Mumbai all-rounder Sayali Sathgare has been named as Gautam's replacement. She has been roped in for the base price of Rs 10 lakh.
 

Gujarat Giants will begin their campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 25.
 

Huge blow to RCB

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a big blow as well. The India all-rounder Kanika Ahuja has been ruled out due to an injury as well. 
 

Ahuja was picked for Rs 35 lakh by RCB in the previous edition of the auction and was later retained. She scored 98 runs from seven games including her best score of 46 against UP Warriorz. She picked up a couple of wickets as well conceding runs at an economy rate of five runs per over.
 

Kanika’s replacement for WPL 2024

The Bangalore-base franchise has named Maharashtra's left-arm fast bowler Shraddha Pokharkar as her replacement. She has been roped in for her base price of Rs 10 lakh. 
 

The Smriti Mandhana-led RCB will begin their campaign against UP Warriorz on February 24 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. 

 

Last season, RCB finished fourth on the points table with just two wins from eight games and a slightly better net run rate (NRR) than Gujarat Giants. They will look to better the previous record.
