Delhi Capitals (DC) handed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) their fifth consecutive defeat of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 season as they beat the Smrit Mandhana-led side by six wickets at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Monday (March 13).

While chasing 151, DC dragged the match to the last until Jess Jonassen smashed back-to-back six and a four in the final over to steer her side to a thrilling six-wicket victory despite Ellyse Perry's cracking 67 off 52. DC rode on the duo of Jonassen (29 not out) and Marizanne Kapp (32 not out) to complete the tense chase with two balls to spare. Kapp not only delivered with the bat but also shone with the ball as she conceded just 18 runs in her four-over spell to exhibit her superb all-round show. Her 32-run knock was decorated with three fours and a six. Meanwhile, Jonassen's 15-ball cameo was laced with four fours and one maximum.

On the back of this victory, DC continue to sit second in the points table with four victories and eight points while RCB are now on cusp of elimination after losing losing all their five matches.

DC got off to a shocking start as their star batter Shafali Verma was cleaned up by Megan Schutt on the very second ball of the innings on a golden duck.

But Alice Capsey took up the mantle deposited back-to-back boundaries to steady Delhi's boat.. Soon she was also sent to pavilion by Preeti Bose after scoring an impressive 38 off 24 balls which was decorated with eight boundaries. Later, skipper Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues added 25 runs but their pair was rattled in the ninth over. The Orange Cap holder Lanning holed out to Heather Knight on the fence off Sobhana Asha after scoring 15 off 18.  A crucial moment arrived in the game on the first ball of the 12th over, when Preeti Bose at point dropped a regulation catch to give a reprieve to Rodrigues, batting on 17. But Rodrigues too was dismissed in the 15th over after smashing crucial 32 off 28. It was all upto Kapp and Jonassen, who added 45 runs for the fifth wicket to take their side past the finishing line.

Earlier, after put to bat first RCB posted 150/4 on the board in their stipulated 20 overs with Perry and Richa Ghosh's (37) batting exploits. Shikhar Pandey was the pick of the bowlers for DC with 3/24.
