The White Ferns were pushed early in both innings but recovered strongly to secure a crucial win that keeps them in the race for a semifinal berth. After restricting Scotland to 131/6, New Zealand overcame a shaky start in the chase thanks to a match-winning partnership between Izzy Sharp and Brooke Halliday.
Darcey Carter shines but Scotland settle for 131
After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr opted to bowl first. Scotland's innings revolved around a brilliant knock from Darcey Carter, who anchored the batting effort with 72 runs off 52 deliveries.
Carter ensured Scotland avoided early damage and stitched together a 51-run stand with Katherine Fraser. However, Fraser struggled to find momentum during her stay at the crease, managing just seven runs from 17 balls.
Beyond Carter, Scotland's batting lineup failed to build substantial partnerships. Sarah Bryce provided some late support with a valuable 25 off 22 balls, helping her side post 131/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
New Zealand's bowlers shared the workload effectively. Kerr led from the front with figures of 3/22 from her four overs, while all-rounder Sophie Devine claimed two wickets in three overs. Lea Tahuhu and Nensi Patel chipped in with a wicket apiece to keep Scotland's scoring in check.
The chase, however, got off to a disastrous start for the Kiwis. Kerr departed for two, Isabella Gaze managed 16, and Devine fell for just one as New Zealand lost three wickets inside the powerplay.
With the match hanging in the balance, Izzy Sharp and Brooke Halliday produced a decisive 101-run partnership. Sharp struck 62 off 43 balls, while Halliday remained unbeaten on 41 from 38 deliveries to guide New Zealand home with six wickets in hand.
For Scotland, captain Kathryn Bryce and Rachel Slater picked up two wickets each but could not prevent their side from slipping to another defeat.
New Zealand remain in semifinal contention
The victory lifts New Zealand to third place in Group B with four points from four matches. The White Ferns have now registered two wins and two losses in the tournament and hold a healthy net run rate of +0.122.
While their qualification fate remains dependent on other results, the six-wicket triumph has ensured New Zealand stay alive in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 heading into the final stretch of the group stage.
