Scotland opener Darcey Carter scored a patient half-century against West Indies but could not take her side over the line. The 2016 T20 World Cup-winners had a proper scare at Headingley, Leeds, as Scotland came close to chasing down the target of 154. But, a horrible batting collapse left Darcey in tears and Scotland losing the match by seven runs.

In the last two overs, Scotland needed 23 runs to win. With five wickets in hand, Scotland had a chance to stun the Caribbean side. But, Aaliyah Alleyne struck thrice in the penultimate over and conceded just five runs to rule out the possibility of a win. On the first ball, Darcey got out caught and bowled. The new batter Rachel Slater took a single. Ailsa Lister, who had played herself in, hit a four and faced a dot ball. On the fifth ball of the over, Ailsa tried to play a scoop shot and got bowled. Her wicket led to Darcey realising that it is curtains for Scotland in the run chase. She cried inconsolably as the game slipped out of Scotland's grasp.

2 collapses cost Scotland a famous win
Earlier in the game, Scotland had suffered a batting collapse as well. From 51 for no loss in five overs, they lost four wickets for just 58 runs in the eighth over. Hayley Matthews got three wickets as Scotland struggled in the run chase. Afy Fletcher's two wickets led to Scotland losing half the side for 74. Darcey and Ailsa shared a 58-run partnership for the sixth wicket before Scotland suffered a collapse again.
This was 21-year-old Darcey's ninth T20I half-century. The final over was bowled by Qiana Joseph. No boundary was scored and Scotland were bowled out for 146. It was their first defeat of the tournament. In their campaign opener in Manchester, they beat Ireland by 40 runs. On the other hand, West Indies are placed second on Group B points table with two consecutive wins.
Darcey gets support, to face England next
After the game, Darcey was consoled by her teammates, support staff and family members who were in attendance at Headingley, Leeds as well. She will have a chance to prove herself again when Scotland take on hosts England at the same venue on June 20.
