Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has finally provided a major update on Neymar's fitness ahead of the Selecao's FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 clash against Norway, but the Italian tactician stopped short of confirming whether the veteran forward will start the crucial knockout encounter.

Neymar has endured a frustrating World Cup campaign so far after suffering a calf injury that ruled him out of Brazil's entire group-stage campaign. Since returning to full fitness, the 34-year-old has largely been restricted to substitute appearances, leaving many fans wondering whether he is ready to reclaim his place in the starting lineup.
With Brazil preparing to take on an Erling Haaland-led Norway side, Ancelotti addressed the growing speculation surrounding Neymar's role in the knockout stages.

Carlo Ancelotti gives major Neymar fitness update
Speaking ahead of the Round of 16 fixture, Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar is physically capable of completing a full 90 minutes.
However, the Brazilian manager hinted that being fit enough to play the entire regulation time does not necessarily guarantee a place in the starting XI, especially with knockout matches potentially stretching to 120 minutes.
"The important thing is that he is available to play. Yes. He can play 90 minutes."
Ancelotti added that Neymar's experience allows him to manage the rhythm of a game and suggested he would decide the forward's involvement based on how the match unfolds.
"How long he will play, nobody knows. He has the experience to manage his minutes and the tempo of the game. When I feel the team needs him, I will put him on [the pitch]."
The comments indicate that while Neymar is fully available, Ancelotti could once again keep him in reserve before introducing him later in the contest if circumstances demand.
Neymar continues to impress despite reduced role
Despite his disappointment over limited minutes, Ancelotti praised Neymar's professionalism throughout the tournament. The Brazil boss revealed that the veteran has continued to train with complete commitment despite not being a regular starter since returning from injury.
