Jude Bellingham delivered a standout display of sportsmanship following England's goalless draw against Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday. Despite being named FIFA Man of the Match, the England midfielder publicly stated he did not deserve the award and believed it should have gone to one of Ghana's players instead.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was particularly impressive, making several key saves to secure a clean sheet against a star-studded Three Lions attack featuring Harry Kane and Bellingham.
Bellingham shows class in humble Man of the Match rejection after frustrating England draw vs Ghana
The result left both teams with four points from two Group L matches, with England showing signs of a post-victory dip after their opening win over Croatia. While the Real Madrid star was awarded the Man of the Match award, the former Borussia Dortmund star stated that he did not deserve it, but instead, the opponent team's star did.
In his post-match interview, Bellingham was self-critical. He said:
“I didn’t deserve the Man of the Match award”.
The La Liga player added:
“In my view, it should have gone to a Ghana player.”
The 22-year-old, who became the youngest player to reach 50 England caps in the fixture, earned widespread praise online for his humility. Ghana’s organized performance earned respect, turning what many expected to be a straightforward win for the favorites into a hard-fought stalemate. England will look to bounce back against Panama, while Ghana faces Croatia.
