Manchester City players have refunded tickets to travelling fans after the shocking 3-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday, January 20.
Shocking loss for Manchester City in UCL
The Cityzens were surprised early, with Kasper Hogh scoring a brace inside 24 minutes. Jens Petter Hauge made it three goals to the good 13 minutes into the second half before Manchester City's Rayan Cherki reduced the gap two minutes later.
Big step from Manchester City
According to The Times, The City captaincy group, which consists of Erling Haaland - will refund the tickets costs for 374 travelling fans to Bodo, Norway, in the Arctic circle. With an away ticket for the game priced £25 (as per the BBC), the City players are set to put together £9357.
Midfielder Bernardo Silva, another member of City's captaincy group, said that the gesture is a recognition to the sacrifices made by fans to cheer the club:
"Our supporters mean everything to us. We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted. They are the best fans in the world.
"We also recognise that it was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch. Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodo is the least we can do."
Meanwhile, Haaland apologised for the loss:
"Bodo played some incredible football, and it (their win) was deserved. I don't know what to say. What I can say is sorry."
After a second defeat in seven games, City dropped to seventh in the table and potentially need to win their final league phase game at home to Galatasaray on Wednesday on January 28, to book their place in the knockouts.
Manchester United boss Pep Guardiola reacts on Bodo/Glimt defeat
Manchester United manager Pep Guardiola said that the two early goals leaked against Bodo/Glimit on Tuesday in the Champions League made their comeback difficult.
The win recorded Bodo/Gimit's first win over any English club in six games (losing five), lifting them to 27th in the table and in with a fighting chance of reaching the knockout play-offs.
"The game was tight, and we tried to find our situations, but after that, unfortunately, they got two goals early, and we couldn't get back from that," Guardiola said (as per UEFA)."
Manchester City will face Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, January 24.
