As speculation swirls around Neymar Jr's international future, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has addressed the 34-year-old forward's prospects for the 2026 World Cup. With the tournament less than four months away, the Selecao's selection stance remains firmly tied to current form and physical condition, leaving Neymar's potential farewell appearance on the biggest stage still uncertain. 

The former FC Barcelona star was ruled out of the squad for this month's friendlies against France and Croatia. The Santos player stated that he was “upset” following the decision; however, he is hopeful since the final announcement of the squad is still pending. Meanwhile, Ancelotti has come forward to speak on the situation. 

Carlo Ancelotti addresses Neymar Jr’s Brazilian squad snub for World Cup 2026

Ancelotti hasn't ruled out the possibility of including Neymar in the World Cup squad. However, he has conditions. The former Rea; Madriod boss said, in his latest media appearance, said: 

“Neymar can go to the World Cup if he's 100% fit”.

Ancelotti added: 

“I didn’t call Neymar now because he's not 100%, we need players who are at their best”.

The Italian football manager continued: 

“Neymar has to keep working, playing, showing his qualities and a good physical condition”.

Neymar is the all-time leading scorer for his international side with 79 goals despite not playing for the side since October 2023. The player suffered an injury where he tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee. 

Meanwhile, Brazil is all set to face France on March 26 in Boston, followed by a fixture against Croatia on March 31 in Orlando ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
