Cristiano Ronaldo has gone on strike against PIF for their lack of investment in Al-Nassr. Latest reports claim that salaries at the club have also not been paid, which has been cited as a main reason for his decision not to play.
Cristiano Ronaldo to continue his strike
As per a report in A Bola, Ronaldo will continue his protest in Saudi Arabia as long as the salaries are not paid. He will end the strike and play as soon as the club fulfils all payments.
Al Nassr locked horns with Al Riyadh on Monday in the absence of their skipper and came away with a 1-0 win. They will face Al-Ittihad on Friday in the next league game, and the striker is once again not on the squad list.
Cristiano Ronaldo feels betrayed by Al-Nassr
CBS Sports have claimed that he feels betrayed by the club and is ready to end his 3-year stay in the Saudi Pro League. They have not kept the promises made during the contract extension that was signed last year. The report adds that Ronaldo has a €50 million release clause in his contract, and clubs in Turkey are keeping tabs on it.
Cristiano Ronaldo was not happy with Al-Hilal signing Karim Benzema, along with other signings, during the transfer window, while Al-Nassr signed just one young midfielder, as the two sides are fighting for the league title this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo gets warning from the Saudi Pro League
Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a warning by the league ahead of the fixtures, with an SPF Spokesperson telling PA that no player will be given the authority to influence decisions outside their club. The spokesperson added that all clubs are run by their respective boards and not directly by the owners and said:
"Clubs have their own boards, their own executives and their own football leadership. Decisions on recruitment, spending and strategy sit with those clubs, within a financial framework designed to ensure sustainability and competitive balance. That framework applies equally across the league.
"Cristiano has been fully engaged with Al Nassr since his arrival and has played an important role in the club’s growth and ambition. Like any elite competitor, he wants to win. But no individual - however significant - determines decisions beyond their own club."
Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2022 following his contract was terminated at Manchester United. He signed a 2-year deal last summer, keeping him at the club until 2027 .
