One of those changes was the return of Jose Mourinho as the head coach of the club. Meanwhile, amid all the transfer rumors of Modric, the legendary player has dismissed reports of contact from the new manager regarding a potential return to the club.
Is Jose Mourinho bringing Luka Modric back? Real Madrid legend opens up
In an interview with Alberto Pereiro, the Croatian midfielder laughed off suggestions of a call from Mourinho, stating:
“Mourinho called me? No no (laughs), I wish him all the luck, as always.”
Modric added that the Portuguese coach is “amazing, one of the best” and that he holds a “special affection for Jose.” Mourinho was officially appointed Real Madrid’s head coach earlier this month on a three-year deal, returning to the Bernabéu 13 years after his first stint.
Mourinho is credited with bringing Modric to the club from Tottenham in 2012, kickstarting the player’s transformative career in Spain. Modric, whose contract at AC Milan is nearing its end, has been linked with a sensational homecoming. The 40-year-old, however, offered only warm words rather than confirmation of any reunion, either as a player or in a coaching capacity.
