Later, as per a report by MARCA, with footage broadcast by Movistar+'s El Día Después, Belilingam made a controversial remark which was a direct hit at FC Barcelona’s ongoing investigation into corruption in Spanish football which is infamous as the Negreira case. The former Borussia Dortmund star, reportedly said:
“Not even with Negreira.”

The Negreira case has involved the football club along with the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees, Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, who has revealed systemic corruption in officiating, which allegedly favored Barca with payments.
