Chelsea decision to sack Enzo Maresca stunned players, with Enzo Fernández admitting he "didn’t understand" the move.

The Blues have struggled since, including a heavy Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain under new boss Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea shocked everyone on New Year's day after sacking Enzo Maresca as the club's manager. The sacking came in less than six months after helping the Blues to lift the FIFA Club World Cup title.

Chelsea's strange decision

As per reports, Maresca's opinion clashed with the club's hierarchy after no centre-back was signed last summer. Maresca felt an urgent need of a centre-back to strengthen the defence of the side after Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury.

After sacking Marseca from the position, Chelsea signed Liam Rosenior as his replacement. But things are not going in the favour of the Blues as they recently picked up a 8-2 loss on aggregate against PSG at the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Enzo Fernandez raises questions on Enzo Maresca's sacking

After the game, Chelsea's star midfielder, Enzo Fernandez expressed his displeasure in former boss, Enzo Maresca's sacking, saying he did not have an understanding of the decision and how the hierarchy manages things.

"I don’t understand it either. Sometimes there are things that we as players don’t understand, how and in what way they try to manage things. Obviously, it was a departure that hurt us a lot because we had an identity. He gave us an order, even though, as is the way of football, sometimes it’s good and bad," said the Argentine midfielder.

He further added that the club faced a lot of difficulties in moving ahead after Maresca's departure that too in the middle of the season.

"But he always had a very clear identity when it came to training and playing, and obviously his departure hurt us a lot, especially in the middle of the season, it cuts everything short," Fernandez concluded.
