Thiago Silva and Marcelo's contracts are about to end at their respective clubs and the two Brazilian veterans are key targets for Fluminense, confirmed Mario Bittencourt.

Silva, 38, before setting the European stage on fire started his career at Fluminense and even returned to his boyhood club in 2006 for three years.

Marcelo, on the other hand, had a trophy-laden career at Real Madrid but the Brazilian full-back also started his career at Fluminense. On September 3, 2022, Marcelo signed for Super League Greece club Olympiacos.

Both players are out of contract with their teams at the end of the season and Bittencourt confirmed the club will make a move if they do not renew with Chelsea and Olympiacos respectively.

Although Silva hasn't confirmed whether he will renew his contract at Chelsea or not and that is the biggest hindrance in his move to the Brazilian club. "We are waiting for [Thiago Silva's] decision at Chelsea. We don't know yet if he will extend there or not," Bittencourt told a press conference.

"Depending on this information, whether he extends or not, we will start discussions for him to come back to Fluminense," added Mario Bittencourt.

Marcelo finds himself in a similar situation as the former Real Madrid player joined Olympiacos in 2022 and his contract runs until May thus a move back home seems an ideal call for the 34-year-old. "We have the will to bring [Marcelo] in. But he is in the same situation as Thiago Silva. He has a contract in Greece that goes until May. We are waiting to see the decision he will take there if he will extend or not."

Al-Nassr has been in the news since they signed Cristiano Ronaldo last year and the Saudi club has been targeting other Marquee players Marcelo is on their radar too. A move back with Cristiano Ronaldo seems an interesting prospect for the Brazilian full-back as the duo had a good relationship at Real Madrid. But the Brazilian club is keen on signing both Thiago and Marcelo when their contract ends. "We are following the situation of Marcelo and Thiago Silva to bring them back."

With age catching up both players a move back home is an ideal call for the duo but their recent performances seem to prove something else. At 38, Thiago is going strong at Chelsea and until recently Marcelo was prospering at Real Madrid in La Liga. A move out of Europe is on the cards but is Brazil the destination for both the stalwarts?
