Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has requested Arsenal star Declan Rice to work on his goal scoring ability to establish himself as a world-class player.
Danny Murphy notes weakness in Declan Rice's gameplay
Since departing from West Ham United in £105 million move in July 2023, Rice has gone through a big transformation at Mikel Arteta's side. He has evolved into a capable number eight despite starting his career as a holding midfielder.
In a recent interview with online bookmaker Best Betting Sites, Murphy said that Rice should try to contribute more goals and assists to better his status. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham star said:
"For Declan Rice to be spoken of in the same breath as (Steven) Gerrard or (Frank) Lampard, he needs to win the big ones, and he also needs to have the magic moments more often, like he did against Real Madrid (with two free-kick goals last season)."
Murphy, a former teammate of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, continued:
"When you think of Liverpool and Chelsea, and Gerrard and Lampard over the years, you can just pick moments. Big games, big goals. Lampard against Barcelona, in cup finals. Gerrard in cup finals, European finals. The best players produce those magic moments to get the team over the line."
Murphy also said Rice is currently improving his shooting and finishing skills, claiming the Arsenal player is skilled enough to score more. He concluded:
"I think he personally would want to contribute more goals and assists because he knows he's capable. That's one area of the game he's really trying hard to improve, because we know technically he's very good and when he gets in positions he can score, and he should be scoring more with the ability he's got."
Declan Rice's goal record for Arsenal
Rice, who scored nine goals in 52 games last season, has found the back of the net just four times in 32 outings across all competitions for Arsenal this term. The 27-year-old has also provided eight assists for the Gunners this season.
Arsenal player close to joining Eredivisie giants
As per transfer reporter Fabrizio Romana, Arsenal player Oleksandr Zinchenko is close to joining Ajaz in a permanent switch this month. He has already reached Amsterdam to undergo his medical before a move worth £1.3 million.
Zinchenko, 20, has played 10 games during his loan stint at Nottingham Forest this season. He is set to end his temporary spell before joining Ajax.
The Ukrainian has represented Arsenal in 91 games since securing a permanent transfer away from Manchester City in July 2022.
