Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano has delivered a crucial update on Lionel Messi’s fitness and availability as the team prepares for a high-stakes clash against Charlotte FC this weekend. With Major League Soccer resuming after the international break, all eyes are once again on the Argentine superstar and his role in Miami’s campaign.

Messi cleared for action

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mascherano confirmed that Messi has returned in top condition following his international duty with Argentina during World Cup qualifiers. The coach reassured fans that the 37-year-old forward is ready to play a key role in Saturday’s fixture.

“Leo is doing well. He trained with us all week and he’ll be available for the game against Charlotte,” Mascherano said, easing any concerns about his captain’s readiness.

The upcoming match at Bank of America Stadium will be Inter Miami’s first MLS outing since their defeat to the Seattle Sounders in the Leagues Cup final. With Lionel Messi back in action, Miami will be determined to bounce back and regain momentum in the Eastern Conference standings.

Key absences for Miami

While Messi’s availability is a boost, Miami faces notable challenges due to multiple absences in the squad. Luis Suárez, Lionel Messi’s longtime teammate, will miss the encounter as he serves a three-game suspension for his role in an incident during the Leagues Cup final. Additionally, Fafa Picault, David Ruiz, Allen Obando, and Baltasar Rodríguez are all sidelined due to injuries or fitness concerns.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned this season, it’s how to adapt,” Mascherano admitted. “We’ll be missing Fafa, David, and Luis because of suspension, and Baltasar is unlikely to make it as well. But that opens up opportunities for others to step in and prove their value.”

Charlotte riding strong momentum

Inter Miami’s task won’t be easy as they face a Charlotte side in superb form. Charlotte FC enters the game riding an eight-match winning streak that has pushed them into the upper ranks of the Eastern Conference. They currently sit four points clear of Miami, making this clash pivotal for both clubs in the playoff race.

A decisive week ahead for Miami

The meeting with Charlotte marks the beginning of a packed week for Inter Miami. Following Saturday’s away fixture, the Herons will host the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday in a rematch of the Leagues Cup final, before welcoming D.C. United on September 20.

With Lionel Messi back in the lineup, Miami will look to navigate this challenging stretch and reassert themselves as title contenders.
