Jurgen Klopp returns to management as new Germany head coach after World Cup exit

Jürgen Klopp has been officially appointed as the new head coach of the German national football team, with a contract running until July 2030. The 59-year-old, who left Liverpool in 2024 and later served as Red Bull’s global head of football, succeeds Julian Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann stepped down following Germany’s disappointing round-of-32 exit to Paraguay at the 2026 World Cup. Klopp was unveiled at a press conference in Frankfurt today alongside DFB officials. Known for his passionate style and success at Liverpool, where he secured the Champions League, Premier League, and multiple domestic trophies, he is tasked with restoring the Mannschaft’s winning mentality ahead of Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup. 

Klopp’s first match in charge will be against the Netherlands in the Nations League on 24 September. He has already set clear boundaries with the media, stressing the importance of privacy for his family while committing fully to the role. The appointment has generated significant excitement among fans hoping for a fresh chapter in German football.
