Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens launched a scathing attack on his players after they celebrated avoiding relegation from League One on the final day of the season. 

The football club boss was not impressed by the attitude of the players food celebrating something like this. Wellens told the players to "get off the pitch" and branded the campaign an "embarrassing season".

In a fiery post-match interview, Wellens accused members of his squad of being "really, really weak" and wasting ten months of their careers, while claiming the campaign had cost him a year of his own managerial life. 

Despite securing survival, the manager expressed fury at scenes of players celebrating with families on the pitch. Wellens said: 

"There are too many players that have wasted 10 months of their career and wasted my time. I've had one year of my management that has been wasted by the players... But then don't be celebrating with your family. Get off the pitch. It's been an embarrassing season." 

Wellens pointed to poor standards in training and recruitment issues following the departure of key leaders, highlighting ongoing frustrations in the dressing room. The Orient boss, who guided the side to promotion from League Two in 2022-23, now faces questions over his future and squad rebuilding as the club reflects on a campaign that went to the wire to avoid the drop.
