Injury concerns and recent events have contributed to the growing tension with Napoli.

Romelu Lukaku has finally addressed the growing tension surrounding his situation at Napoli, firmly denying suggestions of a rift with the Serie A side.

The Belgian striker, who has been recovering from injury during the international break, found himself at the center of controversy after choosing to remain in Belgium for rehabilitation.

The decision reportedly frustrated Napoli officials and fueled speculation that Lukaku was distancing himself from the club. However, the 32-year-old has now spoken out to clarify his stance and reaffirm his commitment.

Injury struggles behind recent absence

Lukaku revealed that his decision to stay in Belgium was driven purely by medical necessity rather than any intent to step away from Napoli. He detailed the physical issues he has been dealing with in recent weeks.

“This season has been very challenging for me, between the injury and personal loss. I know there has been a lot of noise over the last few days about my situation and it is important to clarify everything. The truth is that in recent weeks I didn’t feel well physically, I underwent some checks while I was in Belgium and it turned out there was inflammation and fluid in the iliopsoas muscle, near the scar tissue,”

The forward emphasized that this was not an isolated setback, highlighting it as the second issue he has faced since returning earlier in the season.

Decision to rehabilitate abroad explained

Addressing concerns over his absence from the club’s training base, Romelu Lukaku explained that undergoing rehabilitation in Belgium was a calculated move aimed at ensuring full recovery.

“It is the second problem I have had since I returned at the beginning of November. I chose to do the rehabilitation in Belgium so that I can be ready when called upon.”

His comments underline a focus on long-term fitness rather than short-term appearances, particularly after recurring injury concerns.

“I could never turn my back on Napoli”: Romelu Lukaku

Despite the speculation, Lukaku made his loyalty to Napoli clear, dismissing any notion of a fallout with the club or its supporters.

“I think most of you saw the interview I did in Verona: I could never turn my back on Napoli, never. There is nothing I would want more than to play and make my team win, but right now I have to make sure I am clinically 100%, because lately I wasn’t and this also weighed on me mentally.”

While tensions may have surfaced in recent days, Romelu Lukaku’s response suggests a player focused on recovery and returning stronger.
