The Saudi Pre League has identified Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah as the new face of the league after talks of Cristiano Ronaldo's potential exit.
Saudi Pro League find replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo
The 41-year-old striker has been the biggest name in the league, arriving in the Kingdom in December 2022 on a free transfer after more than two decades in European football with four different clubs.
Having penned an attractive new deal in 2025, Ronaldo is contracted to Al-Nassr till next summer. However, because of his strike against the club owners PIF not helping the club in the recent transfer window compared to others, Ronaldo could be on the move this summer.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has a 43 million release clause in his new deal, which becomes active at the end of the season. In case he selects that option, a Saudi league source told The i Paper (as per Sport Bible) that Salah or Fernandes would be excellent replacements for the league:
"Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes would be the perfect picks, Salah especially, given he would attract an Arab audience as a Muslim. Either of those coming in, along with that younger talent, would be huge for us. And really soften any Ronaldo blow."
Ronaldo sat out of the Knights of Najd's 1-0 Saudi Pro League victory at Al-Riyadh on Monday before also not featuring in the 2-0 home win against Al-Ittihad on Friday, raising questions about his future at the side.
Both Salah and Fernandes are crucial players for their respective teams
Cristiano Ronaldo's average 2025-26 season
Cristiano Ronaldo has an average start to the ongoing 2025-26 season with Al-Nassr, his third full season in Saudi Arabian football after his arrival in the country three years ago.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 17 goals in the league - two short of Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney - with the Knights of Najd (49) only trailing leaders Al-Hilal (50) after 20 games.
It is pertinent to mention that Ronaldo is yet to win a competitive title in the country, having finished second in the league in successive years before the Knights only managed a third-place finish last season.
