England star faces crowd backlash despite key performance in Uruguay clash.

Thomas Tuchel responds strongly, backing his player amid controversy.

Thomas Tuchel has addressed the controversy surrounding Ben White after sections of the Wembley crowd booed the defender during England’s 1-1 draw against Uruguay.

Ben White at the center of attention

White’s return to the England setup after a four-year absence sparked debate even before kickoff. The defender’s previous exit from the national team camp during the 2022 World Cup had left lingering questions, making his inclusion a talking point.

The reaction from some fans was evident, as boos were heard when White featured in the match. However, the Arsenal defender responded on the pitch, playing a crucial role in the game.

Key role in dramatic draw

White made a significant impact, scoring England’s goal in the 81st minute, which initially appeared to be the match-winner. His performance under pressure demonstrated resilience despite the mixed reception from the stands.

However, the game took a late twist when Uruguay were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time. Federico Valverde converted from the spot in the 94th minute, leveling the score at 1-1 after a VAR review penalized Ben White’s challenge.

Thomas Tuchel defends his player

Speaking after the match, Tuchel backed his defender while also reflecting on the key moments.

“He scored the winner, which was then not the winner; in the end he was a bit too greedy in his defensive actions. But still, I think it’s not a penalty. It would have been nice to keep the clean sheet and take another win, but it will not change my opinion on him.”

Thomas Tuchel also addressed the crowd’s reaction, expressing disappointment at the situation.

“I hope so; it happened before to some players here, which is disappointing. I think it does not help anyone. I think it was mixed reactions; some cheered, some booed. I was not even aware of it until you told me now. I was in the tunnel; I didn’t hear it. But hopefully it’s settled.”

Despite the controversy, Tuchel made it clear that his faith in Ben White remains unchanged. As England move forward, the focus will now be on performances rather than past narratives, with the defender continuing to play a key role in the squad.
