Following the Indian men's team triumph in the Hockey Asia Cup, the women's team also continues to impress. They defeated Singapore comprehensively by 12-0 in their final group stage match to top Pool B and reach the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup. The Indian team is currently unbeaten in the tournament with two wins and a draw from three matches in the group stage.
India absolutely dominated from the get-go during their encounter against Singapore as Mumtaz Khan gave them the leadin the second minute, pushing the opposition to the back-foot in the first few minutes. Both Mumtaz and Navneet would eventually end up bagging hat-tricks and Neha scoring a brce. The likes of Lalremsiami, Udita, Sharmila Devi and Rutuja Pisal also contributed with a goal each to complete the rout.
India's complete domination throughout the match
India got off to a flying start in the first quarter and ended up scoring four goals in the first quarter of the match itself. They would only go on to dominate even more in the second quarter and bagged three more goals to take a 7-0 lead by half-time.
The third quarter saw India convert the match into a completely one-sided affair as they scored four more goals and conceded none to take an 11-0 lead before the commencement of the final quarter. The last 15 minutes of the match saw the Indian team take a back-seat from their relentless attacks at the Singapore goal and saw the latter push for a consolation.
However, India would showcase their great defensive skills in the final quarter and wouldn't allow Singapore to get even a single goal on the board. India would end up having the final say as well with Rutuja getting onto the scoresheeet in the 53rd minute and making it 12-0. The match would eventually end at that very scoreline as India cruised into the Super 4 stage.
Their first opponents of the stage will be Korea and they will be clashing against them on September 10. The other two teams that have made it past the group stage are China and Japan. It remains to be seen if the Indian women's team will be able to bring the prestigious title home as the tournament progresses.
