The Edmonton Oilers superstar captain Connor McDavid has not been in action after suffering a lower-body injury on March 20. The NHL insider provided major health update on his recovery and when he will return on the ice.

When will Connor McDavid return?

The good news for the Oilers is that their other star Leon Draisaitl has led the charge for them as he is the leading NHL goal scorer with 52 goals and has helped the team move into the second place in the Pacific Division.

In the latest 'NHL Rumblings' article for the Athletic on Wednesday, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun revealed that McDavid will make his potential return on the ice before the regular season ends.

The world No. 1, who joined his teammates for the morning skate in Vegas on Tuesday in a non-contact sweater, has been out since suffering a lower-body injury in a game on March 20, he wrote. The Oilers say they expect No. 97 back before the end of the regular season. More specifically, they don’t expect him on this current road trip, which wraps up Monday night in Anaheim, but they are looking sometime within the last stretch of five games for his return. That’s subject to change, but that’s what I was hearing Tuesday.

So he’ll probably be back in the last week of the regular season, he continued. The silver lining is that he will return after getting some rest, which isn’t the worst thing after playing into late June last season, having a short offseason and not quite looking at his very best/ridiculous standard most of the season. Factor in playing in the 4 Nations, too.

This season itself, McDavid has scored 26 goals and 64 assists and is behind his team Draisaitl in total scoring.

Conor McDavid injured during Winnipeg clash

Connor McDavid suffered his injury on March 20 when the team was taking on Winnipeg Jets. He was in visible pain and soon was taken off. Since then, he hasn't appeared to skate at all.

However, seeing him on the sidelines of the T-Mobile Arena before the clash against Vegas Golden Knights was a sight to behold for the fans.

Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said on Tuesday that McDavid won't take part in the Thursday's clash against San Jose Sharks but there full focus is to get him fully fit before the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It should be before the regular season ends, Knoblauch said of McDavid's return. I think the most important thing is he's healthy and 100 percent for the playoffs.

After the Thursday's clash between Oilers vs Sharks, the Edmonton will then take on LA Kings on Saturday and Anaheim Ducks on Monday. They will return to their home on Wednesday as they take on St. Louis Blues.
