The Florida Panthers made NHL history in Game 1 against Edmonton Oilers of the ongoing 2025 Stanley Cup Finals. They reached a milestone 50 road goals in a single playoff run. But, the celebrations were limited as the Panthers lost Game 1 against the Oilers.
Florida Panthers scores 50 road goals
Brad Marchand scored the 50th goal for the Panthers in the first period of Game 1 against Edmonton Oilers. Marchand had joined the Panthers earlier this season at the trade deadline as he played for Boston Bruins all his career.
The Florida Panthers managed to score 14 road goals in Round 1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. In Round 2, the Panthers added 19 more goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The victories over the Maple Leafs included two huge 6-1 wins.
During the Eastern Conference final, they added another 15 goals against the Carolina Hurricanes. Now, in the Game 1 of the ongoing Stanley Cup Finals, they have added three more, which has extended their goal tally to 51.
Florida Panthers have a 8-2 record on the road in the postseason, winning five games on the trot. On their road game performance, Sam Bennett said,
We’re a super-confident team on the road this year.
This was very much evident in Game 1 against the Oilers as Bennett scored two of the three goals for the Florida Panthers. His first goal of the game came in the first period, all thanks to a deflection. Then his second goal of the game came in the second period with a snap shot.
You have no distractions, Bennett said via NHL.com. You’re just with the team, you’re with your guys, and your whole focus is playing hockey. Sometimes that’s a little nice. Especially this time of year, it gets a little busy down here with all the excitement, all the family and friends want to come out. Sometimes that can be nice.
Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov ready for road games challenge
The Edmonton Oilers have the home-game advantage in this year's 2025 Stanley Cup Finals. But, the Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov said on Monday that his team is ready for the challenge. Not just this, he even mentioned that the team expected to be road team all playoffs. Their aim is to stay healthy rather than chasing home ice.
We accepted that, like we knew that we were probably going to have to start every series on the road, and I think we’ve done a good job, Barkov said via NHL.com. We accept the challenge and we play exactly the way we want to play.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals was won by Edmonton Oilers as their star player Leon Draisaitl scored the winning goal in overtime. The Game 2 between Panthers and Oilers will be played on Friday night.
