Former NHL defenseman Frank Corrado believes that the Vancouver Canucks may regret trading forward Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs way more than separating ways with goaltender Arturs Silovs.
This month, the Vancouver Canuckstraded Joshua to the leafs for a 2028 fourth-round pick. They also sent Artus Silovs to the Penguins for Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-rounder.
During a conversation with Sekeres & Price podcast, Corrado shared his opinion on the Canucks' move:
"I think the Joshua one more than the Silovs one, because they're still pretty well hedged in net. I would have said the player as opposed to the goaltender, maybe not in every situation."
Frank Corrado said that if it had been Thatcher Demko who was traded, he would not have reacted in the same manner, but Dakota Joshua is from a different league. He noted that Vancouver brought in Evander Kane, which might be a blessing in disguise.
However, he said that there are not many players like Joshua when he is at his best form, especially during his time playing along with Teddy Blueger and Conor Garland two seasons earlier.
Corrado appreciated Joshua's ability to change the tempo of the game :
"Change the temperature of the game and frustrate you with what he's doing away from the puck, and then frustrate you because he can actually score, you know, and kind of finish the job."
On Arturs Silvos, Corrado said that the young goaltender is still going through a developing stage.
“And Artūrs Silovs is still working his way through the NHL process. Could end up being a great goaltender, could eventually go back to the AHL. Who knows?”
Price's perspective suggests that the Canucks' decision to trade Dakota Joshua was a strategic decision aimed at fulfilling the needs of the roster.
