Pawan Sehrawat's Bengaluru Bulls defeated the defending champions Bengal Warriors by a slim margin of 36-35 on Super Sunday of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) at Sheraton Grand which is also the Bengaluru side's home arena.
Another nail-biter of a contest saw the outcome decided in the final minutes of play. Pawan, the winning squad's captain, was brilliant, scoring 15 points for his team, including 11 successful raids out of 20. Pawan had the support of his teammate Chandran Ranjit, who also scored a half-dozen points. Furthermore, Bengaluru's important two points from South Korea's Dong Geon proved decisive in the end.
Despite the fact that Bengal lost, the captain Maninder Singh was the star of the night, scoring the most points (17) in the entire match. Along with the captain, Mohammad Nabibakhsh was the pick of the player for the defending champion who scored 8 points.
Bengal started with a solid onslaught led by Maninder Singh, who seemed unstoppable in the first ten minutes. Bengaluru's captain did not disappoint them, bringing his team back into the game at the end of the first half. Pawan's retaliation ensured that the Bulls would have the upper hand in the first half, as the score was 18-17 in Bengaluru's favour at halftime.
Bengaluru maintained their lead in the second half, leading 28-21 at one point, but Maninder's team showed guts to make an immediate comeback. However, the brilliant move of putting Geon into the game ensured that Bangaluru is going with a win under their belt.
