The 23-year-old farmer's son from Khandra village near Panipat in Haryana produced a second round throw of 87.58m in the finals to stun the athletics world and end India's 100-year wait for a track and field medal in the Olympics. Chopra won the country's seventh medal and first gold in the Tokyo Olympics and joined shooter Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing Games) as India's individual gold winners in the showpiece.
Meanwhile, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) also hoggled limelight in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 as she had signed off with a bronze medal in her debut Olympic Games after a comprehensive 0-5 loss to reigning world champion Busenaz Surmeneli.
Also, Indian men's hockey team displayed a great game of counter-attacking play to clinch Germany 5-4 in the bronze medal play-offs at the Tokyo Olympics. Indian men's hockey team won the Olympic medal (bronze) after a gap of 41 years. India's last of the eight Olympic gold came way back in the 1980 Moscow Games.
