Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports is planning to confer the National Sports awards physically this year. Speaking with Sports Tak, a source in the know of development said, “We are discussing about it and we are planning to do it physically this year. But, as of now, nothing is finalized. There are things which needs to be taken care because of Covid-19.
“Ministry officials will meet President House officials next week to discuss whether it will be virtual or physical,” the source further said.
When asked whether any date has been decided for the awards or not, the source said, “No date has been decided yet. The whole process is active and when we get a confirmation from the concerned department, will take a call on date. Also, the selection committee is yet to meet and recommend the names of athletes.”
The source also revealed that this year’s awards have been delayed because of the Tokyo Olympics.
“Awards got delayed this year because it was the Olympics year and we wanted to add Paralympians as well. Our athletes have done the best-ever job and they should be recognized for it,” the source clarified
So far, more than 600 applications have been received which will need sorting out by the team.
It is to be noted that last year’s awards were being given virtually due to pandemic.
