Star archer Bhajan Kaur won two consecutive matches in the women's individual archery event of the Paris Olympics 2024 to seal her place in the round of 16 which is also known as the pre-quarter-finals. She defeated Syifa Nurafifah Kamal in the round of 64 and then later defeated Poland's Wioleta Myszor in the round of 32 to advance to the next round.
Bhajan Kaur's spectacular performance
In her first game of the day which was against Indonesia'a Syifa Nurafifah Kamal, their first ended in a draw and the INA archer had India on the ropes as she won the second set and gained the good lead. However, Kaur fought back valiantly, and with straight wins in three sets, she went from 1-3 to 7-3 and ensured her qualification in the next round.
Then in round of 32, she was up against the Polish archer Wioleta Myszor who appeared really confident but Bhajan was firm with her stand as well and confident in her own skillset. She stunned everyone after defeating Wioleta in three straight sets and secured her place in the pre-quarter-finals with a 6-0 point. This win is crucial as Indian archers were unable to put on an impressive performance so far in the Paris Games.
Bhajan Kaur avenges Ankita Bhakat's loss
Bhajan Kaur also avenged the loss of her teammate Ankita Bhakat who lost against Poland's Wioleta Myszor in round of 64. Ankita fought well but eventually lost 4-6 against Wioleta. Now Bhajan got to face Wioleta and she did not miss this opportunity to avenge her fellow Indian teammate. She will now be competing in the round of 16 on August 3. India would be hoping to see another great performance from Bhajan Kaur in her upcoming rounds.
