India’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics 20224 grew to two as the shooting duo clinched a hard-fought victory over South Korea. Manu Bhaker and her partner edged out Wonho Lee and Jin Ye Oh by a score of 16-10. This win marks a historic achievement for Bhaker, as she becomes the first Indian shooter to win multiple Olympic medals and the first Indian athlete to win two medals at the same Olympics.

 

It was a perfect redemption for Sarabjot, who was left devastated after failing to qualify for men's 10m air pistol event on July 28. However, he turned it around in the mixed event and made India proud with a perfect comeback.

Who is Sarabjot Singh?

 

Hailing from a farming family in Ambala, Punjab, Sarabjot Singh is a grounded and mature athlete with a strong shooting pedigree. Known for his unwavering self-confidence, he has emerged as a promising contender for the podium. His journey to the spotlight began with a gold medal at the 2019 Junior World Championship. Subsequent triumphs include a team gold at the 2022 Asian Games and an individual bronze at the 2023 Asian Championships. When not on the range, Sarabjot indulges his passion for cars.

 

Sarabjot Singh made history in 2023 by securing India's first-ever Olympic pistol shooting quota. His achievement followed a strong bronze medal performance at the Asian Shooting Championship. The 23-year-old's talent was further showcased with a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Bhopal. Building on this momentum, he clinched another gold at the 2024 ISSF World Cup in Munich, entering the Olympics with heightened confidence.

She created history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach an Olympic final in an individual shooting event in two decades. The last Indian woman to achieve this feat was Suma Shirur at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Furthermore, Bhaker has made a name for herself by qualifying for the 10m air pistol women's final, a first for any Indian woman at the Olympics.
