Former England captain Michael Vaughan narrated the horrifying experience of being locked in a restaurant during a terrorist attack at Sydney's Bondi beach that claimed at least 15 people. Vaughan was at the restaurant with his wife, two daughters, sister-in-law and a friend when the unfortunate incident took place.

“Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary .. Now home safe .. but thanks so much to the emergency services and the guy who confronted the terrorist .. thoughts with all who have been affected,” Vaughan wrote on X.

Vaughan was a few hundred yards away from the restaurant where the incident took place. At first, when he heard sirens, he thought that it was a shark attack. He recalled the sombre atmosphere of the restaurant.

“I have never experienced anything like it. You know what’s happening around you, but you don’t want to believe it’s happening,” Vaughan said via The Daily Telegraph. “There were people eating but it was a very sombre atmosphere.”

Vaughan stands in solidarity with Australia

The third Test of the series is scheduled to start on December 17 at Adelaide Oval. Vaughan has backed Australia to fight back as a nation but recovering from an incident like that will take time.

“The cricket will go on. You don’t back down to these cowards who think they are going to change the world for the better by killing innocent people. Australia will fight back… but it’s going to take a bit of time,” he said.
