Indian squash players delivered stellar performances at the Asian Games, decisively besting their adversaries in both the men's and women's team events on Wednesday. Both squads vanquished their opponents with identical 3-0 scores.
In the women's team event, India showcased their prowess against Nepal. Young sensation, 15-year-old Anahat Singh, overcame Krishna Thapa with scores of 11-7, 11-1, 11-2. This was followed by Joshna Chinappa's victory over Bipana Bhlon, registering 11-4, 11-2, 11-2. The series concluded with Dipika Pallikal effortlessly besting Swasthani Shrestha 11-1, 11-3, 11-2.
Previously, the women's team had marked a 3-0 win against Pakistan in their initial pool match on Tuesday. The third-seeded team finds itself in Pool B, alongside nations like Malaysia, Macau, China, Pakistan, and Nepal. The Indian men's side also notched a resounding victory, whitewashing Kuwait in Pool A.
Abhay Singh emerged victorious against Ali Alramezi, scoring 11-7, 11-6, 11-6. A match that saw an unfortunate turn of events had veteran Saurav Ghosal behind Abdullah Almezayen by two games when Almezayen had to withdraw due to injury.
This gave India a 2-0 advantage. Mahesh Mangaonkar then clinched the tie by defeating Falah Mohammad 11-7, 11-1, 11-2. The men's team, captained by Ghosal, is gearing up for a challenging match against arch-nemesis Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Indian women are set to compete against Macau.
The semi-finalists will be determined from the top two teams in both Pool A and Pool B. In the men's category, the top-seeded Indian team outclassed Singapore and Qatar with 3-0 victories in their inaugural matches on Tuesday. They share Pool A with Nepal. The team, which clinched bronze in the last edition, has set their sights on gold this year, reminiscent of their 2014 triumph.
