Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz drops major update on his US Open return

Carlos Alcaraz will make his long-awaited return to competitive tennis at the 2026 US Open, the Spaniard announced on social media on Thursday. The 23-year-old has not played since mid-April, when he withdrew from the Barcelona Open with a right wrist injury later diagnosed as tenosynovitis. 

The setback forced him to miss the French Open, Wimbledon and the North American hard-court swing, including Cincinnati. However, the defending champion is all set to defend his title at the last Grand Slam of the year. 

Alcaraz confirms US Open return after four-month wrist injury absence

Alcaraz, a seven-time Grand Slam winner who claimed the 2025 US Open title by beating Jannik Sinner in the final, confirmed his comeback with the message “Here we go!” in a collaboration post with football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. The announcement has gone viral because Romano is known for breaking football transfer news, and posting tennis news is unusual for him. 

Meanwhile, the World No. No. 2 has gradually increased his training load in recent weeks, including intensive sessions with Holger Rune in Murcia. The US Open, which runs from 30 August to 13 September, will mark his first competitive appearance in more than four months as he looks to defend his Flushing Meadows crown.
