The BCCI has announced India's squad for the upcoming ODI and Test series against Afghanistan, which will start after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. On the expected lines, Jasprit Bumrah has not been selected for the entire series.
Why no Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI and Test squad?
The Indian team management wants the star right-arm pacer to be in his best possible shape when the tour of England starts from July 1. The Men in Blue will play five T20Is and three ODIs against the Three Lions.

At the press conference, chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed the real reason behind Jasprit Bumrah's absence from the entire Afghanistan series, saying the star pacer will be back once the team starts the England tour.
“Bumrah will be back when we tour England. He is working on his workload,” said Agarkar.
Lately, Bumrah has been facing a struggle since the last few weeks. The right-arm pacer has endured a challenging campaign with the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League season (IPL) 2026 season.
After playing 12 games, Jasprit Bumrah has managed to take only three wickets for MI at an economy rate of 8.53 and a bowling average of 128.00. His best bowling figures of 1/15 came against Gujarat Titans.
