Delhi Capitals' Jake Fraser-McGurk started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with a bang last season. Under Rishabh Pant's leadership, DC did not make it into the playoffs but Fraser-McGurk turned out to be one of the positives. However, he could not replicate the success he got in IPL into international cricket. Despite the lack of form, Fraser-McGurk was roped in for a whopping Rs 9 crore via Right to Match (RTM) card after a bidding tussle with Punjab Kings (PBKS). The youngster is showing good signs ahead of the IPL 2025 as he scored an unbeaten 110 off just 39 balls in the intra-squad game on March 20.
Fraser-McGurk smashed 10 sixes and nine fours as he batted in his typical fashion. He helped his side post a mammoth total of 289 in the intra-squad game. DC posted a video of his hard-hitting where he was hanging on to the back foot and hitting big shots.
Who will be Fraser-McGurk's opening partner?
The soon-to-be 23 year-old will open the innings for DC. There have been reports that their most expensive buy in the auction, KL Rahul is unlikely to open the innings with the young Australian opener. Recently-announced vice-captain Faf du Plessis and wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel are two options as openers as well. The former South Africa captain Du Plessis used to opening the innings. He did it at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as well. Porel is open to bat at any position. In the last season, he batted at no.3 as well.
Fraser-McGurk's maiden IPL season
In the previous season, Fraser-McGurk scored 330 runs from nine innings, averaging 330. His strike rate of 234.04 was miles ahead of others. He crossed the fifty-run mark four times in the tournament with highest score being 84.
Axar to face former captain in IPL 2025 campaign opener
Under the leadership of new captain Axar Patel, DC will begin their season against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on March 24. This will be the first time DC will face their former captain Rishabh Pant who became the most expensive player in IPL history at Rs 27 crore.
