BCCI takes action against Sanju Samson, slaps hefty fine after GT vs RR clash.

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) was fined after the team maintained a slow over-rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match 23 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was the team's second offence in the mega event. Rajasthan were earlier penalised for the same offence in the match against Chennai Super Kings last month at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Stand-in captain Riyan Parag, who had filled in for an injured Samson, was charged with INR 12 lakhs.

However, on Wednesday, BCCI slapped a hefty fine of 24 lakhs on Samson. "The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," an IPL media release read.

GT defeated RR by 58 runs

Hosts Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 58 runs to register their fourth consecutive win of the ongoing mega event. GT star Sai Sudharsan continued his purple patch against RR, smashing 53-ball 82, while explosive cameos from Jos Buttler (36), Shahrukh Khan (36), and Rahul Tewatia (24) propelled GT to a formidable 217/6. While chasing 218 runs, RR failed to get a good start as Arshad Khan picked up Yashasvi Jaiswal's wicket in the second over. After Jaiswal's wicket, Nitish Rana also got out, scoring just one run as RR slumped to 12/2 in 2.2 overs.

Skipper Samson and Riyan Parag tried to change the momentum with a 48-run partnership, but Kulwant Khejroliya, coming in as an impact player, broke the stand by removing Parag for 26. Dhruv Jurel followed soon after, scoring 5, leaving RR struggling at 68/4.

Samson, who was playing on 41 runs, was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. After the skipper's wicket, RR failed to build a partnership as impact player Shubham Dubey managed 1 run before falling to Rashid Khan. Jofra Archer and Shimron Hetmyer were Krishna's next victims, with Hetmyer top-scoring for the Royals with a fighting 52. RR were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19.1 overs.
