Story Highlights:

Ajay Jadeja questioned Ajit Agarkar over the delay in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's India call-up.

The 15-year-old Orange Cap winner scored 776 runs and smashed a record 72 sixes in IPL 2026.

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has asked the selectors to select Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after delivering an iconic campaign with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The former India batter has revealed that he met India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar and questioned him when the 15-year-old will make his international debut.

In an interaction with ANI, the former India cricketer asked the selectors when they will pick the 15-year-old batter for International cricket, as he has already dropped a masterclass IPL season with the bat.

“How much better can he perform? I saw the chairman and asked him, ‘Mr. Chairman! When will you pick Vaibhav Sooryavanshi? If not now, then when? Irrespective of his age, how could anyone possibly bat better than this?" said Jadeja.

Sadly, Rajasthan Royals (RR) fell short of reaching the final of IPL 2026 after they endured a heartbreaking defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Qualifier 2 clash. In the loss against GT, Sooryavanshi stood tall among his RR teammates with a stunning knock of 96 runs off just 47 balls. However, his innings was not enough to seal the game for RR.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's stellar campaign in IPL 2026

The 15-year-old opener enjoyed a historic individual campaign with the bat, amassing 776 runs in just 16 innings at an average of 48.50 with a humongous strike rate of 237.30. Vaibhav managed to hit one century and five half-centuries throughout the competition.

During his campaign, Vaibhav broke various records and one of them was Chris Gayle's long-standing record of hitting the most number of sixes in a single season. In IPL 2012, Gayle smashed 59 sixes and Vaibhav demolished the record by hitting a total of 72 sixes. Notably, this is also the most number of sixes smashed by any Indian batter in the history of the tournament.

The left-handed opener recorded his top-score of 103 off just 37 balls in a league-stage game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He finished the tournament as the top-run scorer and won the prestigious Orange Cap.
