Highlights:

Several cricketers were released by their respective IPL franchises ahead of mega auction

While DC released Rishabh Pant, LSG let go their captain KL Rahul

The IPL 2025 player retention process concluded on Thursday, October 31 with several surprises. While star players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nicholas Pooran were retained by their respective teams, high-profile names such as Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Mitchell Starc, and KL Rahul were released.

All ten IPL franchises strategically selected players to retain, aiming to maintain a strong core. Each team was allowed to retain up to five capped players, two uncapped players, and a total of six players. The franchises that opted for fewer retentions will have more flexibility in the upcoming mega auction, with a higher number of Right-to-Match (RTM) options and a larger purse to spend.
