Faf calls for better utilisation of Bumrah and stronger support from rest of attack.

Bumrah goes five matches without a wicket, longest drought of his career.

Jasprit Bumrah's lack of form in IPL 2026 is becoming a serious headache for Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians. After an 18-run loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday, April 12 at the Wankhede Stadium, Faf du Plessis has dropped an unique opinion on the utilization of the star India speedster.

Batting first, RCB batters smashed a score of 240/4, though, Bumrah ended up being the most economical bowler from Mumbai Indians with an economy rate of 8.8, but failed to clinch any wicket in his spell of fours.

Faf de Plessis reflects on Jasprit Bumrah's usage by Mumbai Indians

In an interaction with JioHotstar, Faf du Plessis said that MI need to assess the rest of the bowling attack beyond Bumrah's four overs as they end up being quite economical.

"When you look at that bowling attack, especially in high-scoring games of 250 or more, you have to assess what the rest of the attack is conceding beyond Bumrah’s four overs, which are usually very economical," said du Plessis.

The former RCB skipper further said that MI have to find a different way to utilize Jasprit Bumrah by using him at key phases of the game.

"That’s where Mumbai Indians need to find answers. They need to maximise Bumrah’s impact by using him at key stages, but it doesn’t get any easier with strong batting line-ups continuing to dominate. They will need to sit down and reassess their approach, particularly in the Powerplay, whether that involves tactical changes or bringing in different personnel," added du Plessis.

So far in IPL 2026, Bumrah is going through an unusual drought, as the star Indian speedster is yet to take a wicket in the tournament. Including MI's last game in IPL 2025, the 32-year-old has now gone five games without a wicket, marking the longest such stretch of his illustrious career.
