LSG's Digvesh Rathi faces one-match ban for his on-field altercation in SRH clash, Abhishek Sharma punished by BCCI too
The umpire walks to intervene as Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad, left, interacts with Digvesh Rathi of Lucknow Super Giants after Sharma lost his wicket during the 2025 IPL match at Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 19, 2025, in Lucknow, India.

Story Highlights:

Digvesh Rathi has faced a one-match suspension.

This was Rathi's third offence in the IPL 2025 season.

Abhishek Sharma has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees as well.

Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) in-form bowler Digvesh Singh Rathi has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct again. Rathi's aggressive send-off and on-field argument with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma has led to a one-match suspension as well.

This was Rathi's third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He has been handed two demerit points for the offence against SRH. Hence, he has accumuldated a total of five demerit points leading to a suspension. The first two offences were against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 1 and Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 4.

Meanwhile, Abhishek has been reprimanded as well. The SRH opener has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point.

LSG won't be able to lodge a protest as the match referee Pankaj Dharmani's decision is final. Rathi will not be playing in LSG's next clash against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 22 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

After the match, Abhishek had a conversation with LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president had a word with the two as well.

In the post-match presentation, Abhishek said that all is well between the two.

"I spoke to him after the game and it is all good now," the SRH opener said after winning the 'Player of the match' award.

Big headache for LSG

This is a massive loss for LSG as Digvesh, who was roped in for his base price of Rs 30 lakh in the mega auction, is their leading wicket-taker in the season. He has 14 wickets from 12 games at an average of 28.07 and an economy rate of 8.18 runs per over. Meanwhile, LSG's star leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi's struggle continued as he conceded 26 runs in just one over against SRH.

In Rathi's absence, Pant may have to bring in all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed or Manimaran Siddharth. Both Shahbaz and Siddharth are left-arm spinners. Digvesh's ban will leave Pant with even lesser options against a rampant GT top-order which consists of Sai Sudharsan, Gill and Jos Buttler.
