Delhi Capitals’ (DC) overseas recruit Lungi Ngidi was rushed to the hospital via a green corridor created by Delhi Police after he suffered a neck injury during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 25. Ngidi got injured while attempting to take PBKS opener Priyansh Arya’s catch in the third over. Hours later, it was revealed that Ngidi is stable and discharged from the hospital. A day after the unfortunate incident, Ngidi has thanked everyone for praying for his speedy recovery.
"Thank you for the messages all good," Ngidi wrote in an Instagram story.
Ngidi got injured in the third over itself. As Prabhsimran Singh and Arya launched a record-breaking onslaught in the powerplay overs, Ngidi’s services were missed. The in-form bowler’s like-for-like replacement wasn’t allowed. Dushmantha Chameera couldn’t replace him as DC already had four overseas players in the playing eleven. As a result, Vipraj Nigam replaced him and bowled two overs, picking up the wicket of Nehal Wadhera. Nigam created another chance but Shryeas Iyer’s catch was dropped by Karun Nair.
Who will replace Ngidi vs RCB?
Ngidi is doubtful for the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 27. In his absence, DC have a few options. It is not clear whether Mitchell Starc will play or not as he was earlier reported to play on May 1. If the Proteas speedster misses out, DC will have to choose between New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson and Sri Lanka’s Chameera. Both overseas pacers are yet to play a game this season.
Skipper Axar Patel and DC team management have a headache ahead of RCB clash. They couldn’t defend a total of 264/2. Their pace attack looked toothless barring left-arm pacer T Natarajan. Mukesh Kumar and Auqib Nabi were very expensive against the PBKS openers.
