Shreyas Iyer secured a unique place in Indian Premier League history on May 14, becoming only the second captain to amass 1,000 runs for two different franchises. Leading the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2026 season, Iyer entered the clash against Mumbai Indians needing just four runs to reach the landmark. By comparison, KL Rahul set the benchmark during his leadership stints with Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, scoring 1,296 and 1,395 runs respectively. Iyer reached his newest milestone for Punjab in just 29 matches, underscoring his consistency and the pivotal role he has played in the team's top order since taking over the captaincy.
Shreyas Iyer' special '1000' milestone
Shreyas Iyer reached the 1,000-run milestone for PBKS in just 28 innings, making him the third-fastest player to achieve this feat for the franchise. He follows only Shaun Marsh, who reached the mark in 21 innings, and KL Rahul, who required 23. This rapid accumulation of runs highlights Iyer's immediate impact and consistency since joining the Punjab-based team.
By reaching this landmark, Iyer has become the 11th player overall to score 1,000 IPL runs for the franchise. His success with Punjab adds to an already storied career in the league, which includes a lengthy seven-year tenure with Delhi Capitals from 2015 to 2021. During his time in Delhi, the Mumbai-born batter was a cornerstone of their lineup, amassing 2,375 runs across 87 matches.
In addition to his prolific stints with Delhi and Punjab, Iyer also spent two seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 and 2024. During his time with the Kolkata franchise, he contributed a total of 752 runs in 29 appearances. Across all his teams, Iyer has proven to be a versatile and reliable top-order presence, capable of anchoring innings regardless of the colors he is wearing.
However, Iyer couldn't live up to the expectations against MI. Not just he failed to click with the bat but his team also lost the match by 6 wickets.
