Purple Cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar puts team before personal milestones, says 'I’m just trying my best'

It seems like Bhuvneshwar Kumar has rediscovered his peak again, as the star Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has topped the Purple Cap standings after claiming three wickets for just 28 runs from four overs against Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT).

Despite being the Purple Cap holder in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, Bhuvneshwar Kumar stayed modest, saying that he has gone past the age of looking for individual achievements.

"It’s good that I got the Purple Cap. But I think I have come out of that time where I want to achieve something individually," said Bhuvneshwar at the post-match conference.

 

 

While admitting that he feels good with the individual achievements but he wants to work towards the team's success as he is not young anymore and is trying to give his best on the field.

"Of course, I want to achieve something, but now it’s more of a team. I’m not young anymore. Of course, when you’re young, you want to win those awards, and it comes when you do well," added Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

 

 

"But when you want to work towards the team’s goal, and you get an individual award or reward, you feel good. But honestly, I’m just trying my best. Getting confidence from the management. That’s all I can say," concluded Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

 

 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's red-hot form in IPL 2026

The star RCB pacer has managed to bring back his best form in the IPL 2026, picking up 17 wickets in just nine matches at an economy rate of 7.54 and a bowling average of 15.52. His best figures of 3/5 came against Delhi Capitals. The Rajat Patidar-led side will look for more impactful performances from Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the later stages of the tournament to successfully defend the title. 

It will be interesting to see if the former SRH pacer can continue his red-hot form in the later stages of the tournament.

Currently, RCB sit at the second place in the table with 12 points in hand after playing nine matches in the tournament, at a net run rate of +1.420. The Rajat Patidar-led side will face Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants in their upcoming clash on May 7.
