Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a comprehensive win over the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by four wickets in their IPL 2026 clash, on Thursday, April 30 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After the game, GT skipper Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli shared a heartwarming interaction which became a highlight moment.

Following the conclusion of the game, Virat and Gill shook hands and shared a warm hug which was captured by the broadcaster. The moment displays the mutual respect between the two stars of the game. There is no doubt that Shubman Gill considers Virat Kohli as his idol.

After the game, Shubman Gill noted the importance of Virat's wicket in the first innings, saying it brought everyone together in the team to do well.

"I think our fielding was one of the things, it's something I think at phases, we haven't fielded that well in the game. And I think today was one of those days, everyone came together. The energy in the field was very, very nice, especially after the second over, Virat bhai hit us for some runs and how we all came back together. That was very crucial for us," said Gill at the post-match presentation.

 

 

Shubman Gill's big role in win vs RCB

In the second Innings, despite losing Sai Sudharsan early, Shubman Gill made sure of a flying start with his fiery innings, with the help of four boundaries and three sixes while chasing 156. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler also made a valuable contribution of 39 runs off 19 balls in the run-chase. Rahul Tewatia and Jason Holder provided the finishing touches with unbeaten 27 off 17 and 12 off 10 respectively.

Shubman Gill's strong IPL season

The GT skipper is silently dropping a great campaign in the ongoing IPL 2026 with the bat, scoring 373 runs in just eight outings at an average of 46.63 with a great strike rate of 155.41.

The right handed batter has scored three half-centuries in the tournament, with his highest score of 86 off 50 balls coming up against Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders.
