Rajasthan Royals (RR) manager Romi Bhinder has landed in troubled waters as he was spotted using his smartphone in the team's dugout during the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on February 10. The act violates Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) protocol and Bhinder might face sanctions.
Bhinder was shown using his phone with star opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi by his side in the 11th over of Royals run chase. Sooryavanshi had returned to the dugout after a 26-ball 78.
As per the PMOA Protocol - 2026 which can be accessed on IPL's official website, the team manager and media manager are allowed to carry their phones but their use in the dugout is prohibited.

Bhinder may receive match referee and anti-corruption unit to explain his action in the dugout. The video of Sooryavanshi peeping at Bhinder's screen has gone viral on social media.
"Managers and media managers carry the phone but the rules regarding its use are very clear. Using it in the dugout is a serious lapse because Romi was sitting next to players who looked at his screen when he was scrolling. There is no grey area here and now it's up to the officials to investigate the matter," an IPL official told TOI.
Lalit Modi wants ‘immediate action’
IPL's founding chairman Lalit Modi has called for an immediate action against Royals' manager.
“Having a MOBILE PHONE IN THE DUGOUT - is a COMPLETELY A NO NO. did this really happen. I hope not. If it did. Then @IPL governing council needs to take IMMEDIATE ACTION,” Modi wrote on his X account.
Royals on top, to face SRH next
Royals are currently at the top of the points table with four consecutive wins. They beat RCB by six wickets in hand and two overs to spare. RR's next match is on April 13 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It is yet to be seen whether there will be an action taken against Bhinder. An official statement from IPL over the breach of protocol in RR's dugout at their homeground is awaited.
