Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have named Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka as the injury replacement for the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Madushanka arrives as a replacement for England’s Brydon Carse, who has been unfortunately ruled out of the entire tournament. Carse, a significant acquisition for SRH during the 2025 mega auction, suffered an injury just before the team's opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28 and was unable to participate in any of the franchise's first five games.

Dilshan Madushanka replaces Brydon Carse in SRH squad
According to an official statement released by the Indian Premier League on Tuesday evening, the 25-year-old Madushanka was selected to fill the vacancy left by the injured Englishman. The left-arm pacer will join the "Orange Army" at a price of Rs 75 lakh. His inclusion provides SRH with a fresh bowling option as they look to maintain their momentum through the middle and latter stages of the competition.
“Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have picked Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Brydon Carse for the remainder of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Carse has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL season due to an injury. Dilshan Madushanka, a left-arm medium pacer, has represented Sri Lanka in 1 Test, 28 ODIs and 19 T20Is and has 70 wickets in international cricket against his name. He will join SRH for INR 75 lakh. The Sri Lankan bowler was previously a part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL," IPL's release read.
Carse has endured a frustrating run of luck with the Indian Premier League. Despite having represented England in 14 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 14 T20Is, the pacer has now been sidelined for two consecutive seasons. His withdrawal from the 2026 edition follows a similar injury-enforced absence in 2025, preventing him from making his mark on the tournament since being signed in the mega auction.

Carse's exit marks the second significant injury blow for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. He follows Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards, who was also ruled out before the campaign began. To fill the void left by Edwards, the franchise recruited England’s David Payne. While Payne enjoyed a successful debut with two wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he was subsequently dropped after a costly outing against KKR opener Finn Allen and has missed the team’s last three fixtures.
Dilshan Madushanka'a profile
In searching for more consistency, SRH has turned to Madushanka, a proven left-arm threat who rose to prominence as Sri Lanka’s leading wicket-taker during the 2023 ODI World Cup. With 61 wickets in 63 T20 appearances, Madushanka is known for his lethal ability to swing the new ball. Although he was previously contracted to the Mumbai Indians, an injury forced him to miss the 2024 season, making this stint with the Orange Army a vital opportunity for him to finally showcase his skills on the IPL stage.
